• Vinay Pathak was already a known face from theatre and small roles, but Sagar Ballary took a huge gamble casting him as the lead in Bheja Fry (2007). Ballary had to fight producers who wanted a bigger star — they didn't think a 'character actor' could carry a whole film.
• On the set of Bheja Fry, Ballary gave Pathak complete freedom to improvise his lines. Pathak would riff for minutes, and Ballary would pick the best bits. That's how the iconic 'Ranjit Chitnavis' stammer and awkward pauses were born — not in the script, but in the moment.
