• Onir cast Sanjay Suri in Bas Ek Pal (2006) after seeing him in a play — but the role was originally written for a much older actor. Suri convinced Onir he could play the brooding, older character by showing up to the meeting unshaven and in character.
• Onir gave Sanjay Suri complete freedom to improvise dialogue in Sorry Bhai! (2008). Suri rewrote most of his own lines on set, and Onir kept the camera rolling — the final film has several long, unbroken takes that are pure Suri.
• Their film I Am (2011) directly launched the career of actor Juhi Babbar — she got her first major film role because Suri recommended her to Onir after they worked together on a stage production.
• Sanjay Suri and Onir have a standing rule: they never discuss work outside the set. After every film wraps, they go months without talking — then Onir calls Suri with a new script idea, and they start the cycle again.
