Umrao Jaan is a 2006 Indian Hindi period musical romantic drama film directed by J.P. Dutta. The lead role is played by Aishwarya Rai, with Abhishek Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Sunil Shetty, and Divya Dutta in supporting roles. The story follows a young girl named Ameeran who is kidnapped and sold to a brothel in Lucknow, where she becomes the celebrated courtesan Umrao Jaan. The film explores her rise to fame, her doomed love affair with Nawab Sultan Khan, and her eventual rejection by society and family. The film was shot on location in Jaipur and features choreography by Vaibhavi Merchant. It was a critical and commercial failure, grossing ₹19.52 crore worldwide against a ₹15 crore budget. Storyline
