• Jackie Shroff personally recommended Akshaye Khanna for the role of Dharamvir in 'Border' after the two had already worked together in 'Hulchul'. Director J.P. Dutta was initially hesitant because Akshaye was a newcomer, but Jackie insisted he had the intensity for a war film.
• In 'Hulchul' (1995), Jackie Shroff played the loud, street-smart conman while Akshaye Khanna played the naive, soft-spoken rich kid. Jackie deliberately slowed down his usual fast delivery in scenes with Akshaye so the contrast in their energies would pop — the loud one became quieter to make the quiet one seem even more vulnerable.
• During the shoot of 'Laawaris' (1999), Jackie Shroff would drive Akshaye Khanna to the set every morning because Akshaye didn't own a car yet. Jackie later joked that he was 'Akshaye's first chauffeur' in Bollywood.
