Trivia
- The film's story is loosely inspired by the 1994 Telugu film 'Subhalagnam', which also dealt with a wife 'selling' her husband.
- Anil Kapoor and Sridevi were paired together after a gap of seven years, their last film being 'Mr. India' in 1987.
- The song 'Mujhe Pyaar Hua' was shot in Switzerland, marking one of the early Bollywood songs filmed at the famous Staubbach Falls in Lauterbrunnen.
- Director Raj Kanwar initially considered other actresses for the role of Kaajal before finalizing Sridevi, who made a major comeback with this film.
- The film's climax and courtroom scenes were noted for their dramatic dialogue, particularly Sridevi's emotional breakdown.
- Despite mixed reviews, the film was a commercial success, partly due to its controversial theme and the star cast.
- Urmila Matondkar's role as the rich, modern Jhanvi was a significant shift from her earlier girl-next-door image in films like 'Rangeela'.
