Sumaithaangi is a 1962 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by C. V. Sridhar. The film stars Gemini Ganesan, Devika, and R. Muthuraman in lead roles. It is based on Ra. Ki. Rangarajan's novel of the same name, which was serialised in the magazine Kumudam. The story follows Babu, a young man forced into repeated sacrifices for his family, leading to a devastating personal loss. The film was produced by Kovai Chezhiyan and features music by Viswanathan–Ramamoorthy with lyrics by Kannadasan. Gemini Ganesan won the Film Fans Association Award for Best Actor for his performance. The film was released on 7 December 1962 and received positive reviews for its emotional depth and performances.

Storyline

A happy-go-lucky college student named Babu falls in love with Radha, his teacher's daughter. But when his family faces financial ruin, Babu is forced to give up his education and his love to support them. One sacrifice after another pushes him further away from happiness and towards a heartbreaking choice.

He carried everyone's burdens until he had nothing left.
