1977 is a 2009 Indian Tamil-language action film directed by G. N. Dinesh Kumar in his directorial debut. The film stars R. Sarathkumar in a dual role as father Rajashekar and son Vetrivel, alongside Farzana and Namitha. The story follows Vetrivel, a scientist who travels to Malaysia after his father dies from shock upon seeing a news report. He uncovers a thirty-year-old conspiracy that framed his father, a former police officer, for a crime he did not commit. The film features a comedy track by Vivek, whose 'Awas Anjing' scene became the most memorable part of the movie. Music was composed by Vidyasagar. The film received negative reviews from critics, who called it outdated and predictable. It was released on 6 March 2009.

Storyline
A scientist named Vetrivel returns to his village after winning a national award. His elderly father dies suddenly after watching a news report about Malaysia. Vetrivel travels to Malaysia to investigate. He discovers his father was once a police officer framed by a powerful criminal. With the help of a reporter and a lawyer, Vetrivel fights to clear his father's name and bring the real criminals to justice.
