• Vivek was still a rising comedian when Vijayakumar, already a veteran hero, personally requested him for Periya Idathu Maapillai (1997). That film set the template for their odd-couple buddy act — the loud, street-smart sidekick and the stoic, dignified lead.
• Vijayakumar deliberately slowed his dialogue delivery in every scene with Vivek. He knew Vivek’s rapid-fire one-liners needed space to land. The result: their comedy scenes in Jambhavan (2006) feel like a perfectly timed tennis rally, not a monologue.
• Their 2009 film 1977 directly inspired the title and retro aesthetic of the later hit Soodhu Kavvum (2013). Director Nalan Kumarasamy has said in interviews that the way 1977 used period props and music made him want to try a similar trick.
• Vivek and Vijayakumar never once had a meal together off-set across all seven films. Not a single coffee break. They’d finish a scene, nod at each other, and walk to separate vans. Both have said it wasn’t coldness — just a mutual, unspoken respect for each other’s space.
• Vivek once told a magazine: 'Vijayakumar sir doesn't laugh at my jokes on set. He just gives a tiny nod. That nod means more than a standing ovation.'
