Sachein(2005)
Sachein is a 2005 Indian Tamil-language romantic comedy film directed by John Mahendran and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. The film stars Vijay in the titular role, alongside Genelia, Bipasha Basu in her Tamil debut, Vadivelu, Santhanam, and Raghuvaran. The story follows a carefree college student named Sachein who falls in love with a popular, short-tempered girl named Shalini at first sight. He uses a unique strategy of mocking her to win her attention, leading to a 30-day challenge between them. The film is an adaptation of the director's 2002 Telugu film Neetho with minor changes. The music, composed by Devi Sri Prasad, became highly popular, with Vijay singing the song 'Vaadi Vaadi'. Sachein was released on 14 April 2005, coinciding with Tamil New Year, and clashed with major releases like Chandramukhi and Mumbai Xpress. The film received mixed reviews but was praised for Vijay's performance. It was re-released worldwide on 18 April 2025 to mark 20 years.
