Trivia

  • The film's title 'Samuthiram' means 'ocean' in Tamil, symbolizing the vastness of the family's bond and struggles.
  • This was one of the few films where actor Napoleon played a negative role as the rich villain, contrasting his usual heroic image.
  • Director K.S. Ravikumar and actor Napoleon had previously collaborated on the hit film 'Suryavamsam' (1997).
  • The movie's soundtrack was composed by Deva, who was known for his folk and mass appeal music in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
  • Actress Roja, who played the sister Rasamani, was a popular lead actress but took on a more victimized character role here.
  • The film was shot extensively in rural Tamil Nadu settings to emphasize the village backdrop and family conflicts.
  • Despite a star cast, the film had a moderate box office run and is less remembered among K.S. Ravikumar's directorial works.
