• K. S. Ravikumar was still an assistant director when he cast Manjula Vijayakumar as the female lead in Cheran Pandiyan (1991). It was his first film as a director — and her first major break after a long gap. He bet his entire debut on her comeback.
• On the sets of Sakthivel (1994), Ravikumar realized Manjula could hold her own in raw, emotional scenes. He started writing longer, uninterrupted close-ups for her — something he rarely did for other actresses in his early films.
• Samudhiram (2001) was the film that launched Manjula's son, actor Jai Akash, into Tamil cinema. Ravikumar cast him as the young lead specifically because Manjula asked him to — making this the only film where a mother-son duo shared screen space under his direction.
• After Samudhiram, Ravikumar and Manjula never worked together again. But she remained the only actress he ever cast in three consecutive decades — 1991, 1994, and 2001 — without a single fallout or public disagreement.
