Trivia

  • The film's title 'Kannan Varuvaan' is a reference to a popular Tamil devotional song about Lord Krishna, tying into the temple-building theme.
  • This was one of the few films where comedian Goundamani played a pivotal, non-comedic role driving the main plot.
  • Director Sundar C. also acted in the film, playing a small but memorable role as a police officer.
  • The movie's soundtrack by Deva included a hit song 'Kannukkul Nooru Nilava', sung by S. P. Balasubrahmanyam and K. S. Chithra.
  • Actress Simran, who played the female lead, was at the peak of her popularity, making this a much-anticipated pairing with actor Karthik.
  • The plot of a mistaken identity involving a lookalike was a popular trope in Tamil cinema, but this film blended it with a family and temple-centric drama.
  • Despite a star cast, the film had a moderate box office run and is often remembered today for its music and comedy scenes.
