• They first shared screen space in Periya Idathu Maapillai (1997), but the pairing almost didn't happen. Director K. S. Ravikumar originally wanted a different actress for Mantra's role. Mantra personally requested to be cast opposite Goundamani after seeing his comic timing in earlier films.
• Goundamani's deadpan delivery forced Mantra to sharpen her reactions. In Thedinen Vanthathu (1997), she had to hold her laughter during his improvised one-liners — the director kept the takes where she broke character because they felt more real.
