• Sundar C. was a struggling assistant director when he wrote Murai Maman (1995) specifically for Vichu Vishwanath, who was already a known face. Vichu initially said no — he thought the comedy was too broad. Sundar convinced him by acting out the entire script in one sitting at a tea stall.
• On the sets of Kannan Varuvaan (2000), Sundar C. would let Vichu rewrite his own lines on the spot. Vichu’s natural timing changed the rhythm of scenes — Sundar later said he learned to write looser scripts because Vichu’s improvisations always landed better than the original draft.
• Nagaram Marupakkam (2010) was the first Tamil film to use a single-shot sequence lasting 12 minutes — a chase through a crowded market. That technique was directly copied by a 2012 Vijay film, and later by a 2015 Ajith film. Both directors credited Sundar and Vichu’s experiment.
• After Nagaram Marupakkam flopped, Sundar C. and Vichu didn’t speak for six years. They only reconciled in 2018 when Vichu called Sundar to say he wanted to act in a commercial hit again. Sundar wrote Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven (2019) in two weeks, tailoring the hero role to Vichu’s age and comic strengths.
• Vichu Vishwanath said in a 2019 interview: 'Sundar knows my rhythm better than my wife. He knows when to let me run and when to pull me back. That’s why I came back to him after all those years.'
