Trivia

  • The film's title 'Thanga Pappa' translates to 'Golden Baby', an ironic name for the vengeful ghost of an unborn girl.
  • Director Aravindraj R is the son of veteran Tamil director A. P. Nagarajan, known for his mythological films, making this horror a genre shift.
  • The movie is a remake of the 1991 Telugu horror film 'Chinnari Devatha', which also dealt with the theme of an unborn child's ghost.
  • Actress Roja, who plays a key role, was a popular heroine in Telugu and Tamil films and also served as a Member of Parliament later.
  • The film blends family drama with horror, a less common mix in early 90s Tamil cinema which often separated the genres.
  • The ghost's backstory involving female infanticide and violence against a pregnant woman addressed a serious social issue within a horror framework.
  • Composer Ilaiyaraaja did not score this film; the music was by S. A. Rajkumar, who was known for his work in Telugu cinema.
