• Their first film together, Alaigal Oivathillai (1981), was Karthik's debut. Radha was already a star. Director Bharathiraja paired them specifically to launch Karthik — and the film became a massive hit, putting both of them on the map as a romantic pair overnight.
• In Alaigal Oivathillai, Radha's character was the assertive, older-seeming woman while Karthik played the shy, younger lover.
