• Venkatesh first cast Thambi Ramaiah in Vathiyar (2006) after seeing him in a small role in a TV serial. The director needed a raw, earthy teacher character and Thambi's real-life village accent sealed the deal.
• On the sets of Malai Malai (2009), Thambi Ramaiah would rewrite his own lines in the local dialect on the spot. Venkatesh let him do it because the actor's improvisations got more laughs than the scripted jokes.
