• Lakshmi was already a star when she signed 'Idhaya Veenai' (1972), but Poornam Viswanathan was a theatre veteran making his film debut. She personally asked the director to cast him after seeing his stage work — she wanted a co-star who could match her intensity, not just a pretty face.
• In 'Naan Avanillai' (1974), Viswanathan played a man pretending to be someone else. Lakshmi, playing his wife, had to react to his lies in real time. She told the director she wanted no rehearsals — she wanted Viswanathan to surprise her every take. He did. That raw, off-balance tension is why the film still works.
• On the sets of 'Dikkatra Parvathi' (1974), Lakshmi and Viswanathan had a running bet: whoever flubbed a dialogue first had to buy the entire crew filter coffee. • After 'Ore Oru Gramathiley' (1987), they never worked together again — not because of a fight, but because Viswanathan shifted fully to character roles and Lakshmi moved into production. But they stayed close: she was the first person he called when he won his first state award in 1992.
