• They first shared screen space in 'Shaan' (1980), but their pairing almost didn't happen. Director Ramesh Sippy originally wanted a different actress for the role of Roma. Parveen Babi auditioned and got the part only after Shashi Kapoor personally recommended her to Sippy.
• In 'Namak Halaal' (1982), Shashi Kapoor played the straight-laced boss while Parveen Babi played the fiery hotel employee. Their scenes crackle because Kapoor deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery, letting Babi's rapid-fire comebacks land harder. He told the director he wanted her to 'win every argument on screen.'
• Their film 'Kranti' (1981) was the first Hindi movie to be shot extensively in the newly built Film City in Mumbai. The massive set for the British-era jail was constructed specifically for their scenes together, and it later became a permanent outdoor location used in dozens of period films.
• During the shoot of 'Do Aur Do Paanch' (1980), Parveen Babi was going through a severe personal crisis. Shashi Kapoor would quietly sit with her in her vanity van between shots, not talking, just reading a book. She later said that his silent presence was the only thing that kept her from walking off the set.
• Shashi Kapoor once said about Parveen Babi: 'She had this raw energy that I could never match. I had to work twice as hard just to keep up with her in a scene. She made me a better actor.' He said this in a 1983 interview with Stardust magazine.
