Partnership facts

• Lakshmi was already a star when she agreed to do Oru Malarin Payanam (1985). Janagaraj was a newcomer. She personally asked the director to cast him after seeing his stage work. That film became his launchpad.
• In Anandha Kanneer (1986), Janagaraj improvised a whole comic sequence where he mimics Lakshmi's character's mannerisms. She laughed so hard during the take that the director kept it in the final cut. That scene is still shared on Tamil meme pages.
• During Kadarkarai Thaagam (1988), Lakshmi cooked biryani for the entire crew every Sunday. Janagaraj later said she taught him how to make it, and he still uses her recipe at home.
• Janagaraj once said in a 2003 interview: 'Lakshmi akka treated me like her younger brother on set. She never let me feel like a junior artist. That's why I gave my best in every scene with her.'
• Their last film together, Dhaya (2002), was the only one where they played a married couple. It was also the only film where Janagaraj's character dies. Lakshmi reportedly cried after the funeral scene — she said it felt like losing a real family member.
