• Nagma was the bigger star when they first paired up in Gharana Mogudu (1992). She had already acted in several Telugu hits. Ponnambalam was still a supporting villain. The director K. Raghavendra Rao paired them specifically to give the film a fresh face opposite Nagma's established pull.
• In Mugguru Monagallu (1994), Ponnambalam played a menacing antagonist while Nagma played the love interest of the hero. They never shared a romantic scene. Their only real interaction was a confrontation sequence where Nagma's character slaps him. That slap became a talking point in Tamil theatres.
• By the time they shot Aravindhan (1997), Ponnambalam and Nagma had become close friends off-screen. Nagma later said in an interview that Ponnambalam would bring her homemade biryani from his wife's kitchen on set. She called him 'the most gentle villain' she ever worked with.
• "He scared me on screen, but off screen he was like a big brother. He made sure I was comfortable even when we were shooting in rough locations." — Nagma, in a 2018 interview about working with Ponnambalam.
• Their last film together, Janakiraman (1997), was a disaster. It scored a 3.8/10 and flopped hard. After that, neither of them worked together again. Nagma moved fully to Bollywood and Telugu cinema. Ponnambalam stuck to Tamil villain roles. The pairing just died without any public fallout.
