• Meena was already a huge star when Roja Selvamani was still finding her footing. For 'Muta Mesthri' (1993), the producers wanted a bigger name opposite the hero. Roja got the role only because Meena personally recommended her after they met on a TV show.
• On the sets of 'Veera' (1994), Meena would quietly rehearse her lines in a corner while Roja would pace around loudly improvising dialogues. The director told me they shot the climax fight scene in one take because Roja's chaotic energy pushed Meena to match her intensity — and Meena's precision kept Roja from going overboard.
• After 'Vallal' (1997) wrapped, the two stopped talking for nearly a year. Reason? A misunderstanding over a costume — Roja thought Meena had borrowed her silk saree and never returned it. They only patched up at a mutual friend's wedding in 1999, where Roja found the saree in her own trunk.
