• Rekha was already a star when they first worked together in Prem Bandhan (1979), but Om Shivpuri was a veteran character actor. The director cast them as father and daughter — not a romantic pair — which set the tone for their entire collaboration.
• In Mangalsutra (1981), Om Shivpuri played Rekha's on-screen father again. Their scenes together had a quiet, restrained tension — he delivered stern, measured dialogue while she responded with barely suppressed defiance. That push-pull became their signature.
