• Muthuraman was a rising hero when Thangavelu — already a comedy legend — agreed to play second lead in Azhagu Nila (1962) only because the script had a rare emotional arc for his character. Thangavelu later said he took the role to prove he could do more than just make people laugh.
• In Anbu Thangai (1974), Thangavelu deliberately slowed down his comic timing to match Muthuraman's more earnest, straight-man delivery. The result was a rhythm where Muthuraman's reactions became the punchline — something neither could pull off with other co-stars.
