• They first shared screen space in 'My Dear Marthandan' (1990) only because the director, P. Vasu, needed a quick comic relief pair to balance the lead. Neither had worked together before, and the shoot was so rushed they barely rehearsed — but the audience loved their timing so much that Vasu immediately cast them again in 'Nadigan' the same year.
• In 'Nadigan' (1990), Goundamani would deliberately pause mid-dialogue to let Chinni Jayanth jump in with a stammered punchline. That rhythm — Goundamani setting the beat, Jayanth rushing to fill the gap — became their signature. Jayanth later said Goundamani taught him 'how to leave space for the other guy to shine.'
• Their double-act in 'Band Master' (1993) was so flat (the film bombed) that producers stopped pairing them for five years. But the failure directly inspired director R. K. Selvamani to cast them together again in 'Thaayin Manikodi' (1998) — he wanted to prove their chemistry wasn't a fluke. That film revived their partnership.
• On the sets of 'Suriya Paarvai' (1999), Chinni Jayanth would bring homemade snacks for Goundamani every single day — a ritual they kept through all six films. Goundamani never returned the favour, but he once told a crew member, 'He feeds me like I'm his younger brother.'
• Chinni Jayanth said in a 2017 interview: 'Goundamani sir never laughed at my jokes on set. Not once. But if he stayed silent and looked at me, I knew the scene worked. That silence was his biggest compliment.'
• In 'Vedham' (2001), their last film together, Goundamani insisted on rewriting their comic track on the spot — he'd whisper new lines to Jayanth between takes. Jayanth later admitted he had no idea what Goundamani would say next, which is why his reactions look genuinely surprised on screen.
