• Goundamani was already a comedy superstar when Raj Kapoor was a newcomer. Director R. K. Selvamani paired them in Uthama Raasa (1993) specifically to give Raj Kapoor's career a boost — Goundamani's comic timing was supposed to carry the film while the new hero found his footing.
• In Seeman (1994), Goundamani played a sidekick who constantly roasted Raj Kapoor's character. But off-screen, Goundamani would rehearse lines with Raj Kapoor for hours before each scene — he wanted the newcomer to match his rhythm so the insults landed perfectly.
• Raj Kapoor has said in interviews that Goundamani never let him feel like a junior artist. On the sets of Aval Varuvala (1998), Goundamani would insist Raj Kapoor eat lunch with him in his vanity van — a small gesture that meant a lot to a young actor finding his place.
