Kannan Varuvaan(2000)
Kannan Varuvaan is a 2000 Indian Tamil-language drama film written and directed by Sundar C. The film stars Karthik in a dual role as Kannan and the impostor Raghu, alongside Manthra and Divya Unni in her Tamil debut. The supporting cast includes Goundamani, Senthil, Manorama, Ranjith, and Radha Ravi. The story follows Kannan, a poor villager who dreams of completing an unfinished temple, and his decision to impersonate a wealthy heir to secure funds. The film blends family drama, romance, and slapstick comedy typical of late 1990s Tamil cinema. Music was composed by Sirpy, with cinematography by U. K. Senthil Kumar and editing by P. Sai Suresh. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the performances of Karthik and Goundamani but criticised the clichéd plot. It was released on 25 May 2000 and performed as an average box office success.
