• They first shared screen space in Paisa Yeh Paisa (1985), a film that was originally meant to have a different actor in Kapoor's role. Shivpuri, who was already cast, personally recommended Kapoor to the director after they met at a common friend's party.
• In Nazrana (1987), Kapoor played the comic sidekick while Shivpuri played the stern father. Kapoor later said in an interview that Shivpuri would deliberately pause his dialogues mid-scene to let Kapoor's reactions land — a rhythm they developed without ever rehearsing.
• During the shoot of Santosh (1989), Kapoor's mother was hospitalized. Shivpuri drove him to the hospital every night after pack-up, then brought him back to set the next morning. They never spoke about it publicly.
