• Azhagappan was a newcomer when director R. Sundarrajan cast him opposite Nadhiya in 'Pookalai Parikatheergal' (1986). Nadhiya was already a known face. She reportedly pushed for him in the role after seeing his screen test — she felt he had a raw, vulnerable energy that matched her character's arc.
• In 'Poo Mazhai Pozhiyudhu' (1987), Nadhiya and Azhagappan developed a silent shorthand. She would slow down her dialogue delivery mid-scene to let his pauses land harder. He, in turn, would hold her gaze a beat longer than the script said — that hesitation became their signature in romantic scenes.
• Their third film 'Irandil Ondru' (1988) was the first Tamil film to use a split-screen narrative device for a romantic thriller. That visual trick was later borrowed by at least two mid-90s Tamil films, though neither credited the original.
• During the shoot of 'Pookalai Parikatheergal', Nadhiya and Azhagappan would rehearse their scenes in a parked car between takes — not because they were shy, but because the set was too noisy. They kept that habit for all three films.
• Azhagappan once said in a 1990 interview: 'Nadhiya taught me that acting is not about delivering lines — it's about what you do in the silence between them. I learned that in our first film itself.'
