• Devika was just 16 when she signed 'Paavai Vilakku' (1960). V. K. Ramasamy, already a veteran character actor, personally vouched for her to the producer. He said she had the right 'sadhu' face for the role.
• In 'Bandha Pasam' (1962), Ramasamy played a strict father. Devika later said he would deliberately break character between takes to make her laugh — it was his way of loosening her up for emotional scenes. She called it 'his secret direction'.
• After 'Veguli Pen' (1971) flopped, Ramasamy called Devika and told her not to worry. He said, 'I've had more flops than you've had films. This one will be forgotten. You won't be.' They never worked together again, but she kept that note for decades.
• Devika once told a magazine: 'Ramasamy sir never treated me like a co-star. He treated me like a daughter he was teaching. Every scene with him was a free acting class.'
