Karunas was already a known face; Vaiyapuri was relatively new. The director paired them deliberately to test if Vaiyapuri could hold his own against a senior comic.
• In Thiruvannamalai (2008), Karunas played the loud, fast-talking sidekick while Vaiyapuri played the nervous, stammering foil.
