• Ghilli (2004) was the turning point for both of them. Before it, Vijay was a star on the decline. Dhaamu was a supporting actor. That film made Vijay a mass hero and gave Dhaamu his most iconic role as the villain 'Muthupandi' — a character that still gets whistles in re-releases.
• The 'Muthupandi' intro scene in Ghilli — where Dhaamu walks out of a jeep in slow motion, chewing a cigarette — is one of the most recreated villain entries in Tamil cinema. Fans still shout 'Muthupandi vararu' at screenings.
• Ghilli ran for over 200 days in multiple theatres across Tamil Nadu. It was Vijay's first film to cross ₹50 crore at the box office, and Dhaamu's first film to be dubbed into Telugu and Hindi — both directly because of their on-screen clash.
• Dhaamu once said in an interview: 'Vijay and I never had a single fight on set. But in Ghilli, when he punches me, I told him to actually hit me. That slap sound? Real. He was scared, but I said do it.'
• Their first film together, Naalaiya Theerpu (1992), was a flop. But it was the only time they played brothers on screen. After that, Dhaamu only played Vijay's enemy — and that shift from brother to villain defined Dhaamu's entire career as a go-to antagonist.
• In Villu (2009), their third and worst-rated film together, Dhaamu played a double role — father and son. The scene where Vijay fights both Dhaamus in a single shot became a meme template for 'fighting your own demons' in Tamil social media.
