• Mohan and Charlie first worked together because director R. Sundarrajan cast them both in 'Uyire Unakkaga' (1986) — but Charlie was initially hesitant. He thought Mohan's star image would overshadow his character role. Mohan personally convinced him to sign on, promising equal screen time.
• In 'Mella Thirandhathu Kadhavu' (1986), Charlie played a blind man and Mohan played his caretaker. Charlie insisted they rehearse every scene blindfolded together for a week before shooting. Mohan later said that exercise made him understand Charlie's physical acting rhythm — they started finishing each other's pauses on set.
• During the shoot of 'Aayiram Pookkal Malarattum' (1986), Mohan and Charlie shared a room in a small lodge in Kodaikanal for 45 days. They cooked their own meals because the hotel food gave both of them stomach issues. Charlie made the same tomato rice recipe every night — Mohan still jokes he can't eat tomato rice without thinking of that film.
• Charlie once said in a 1990 interview: 'Mohan is the only co-star who never once checked his watch while I was delivering my lines. He listened like the audience would — that's rare.'
• Their fourth and final film together, 'Valuthu Kalai Vaithu Vaa' (1989), was the first Tamil film to feature a live snake as a plot device in a comedy track. The snake handler walked off set on day two. Mohan and Charlie had to share a bed with the snake for the scene — and Charlie held it still while Mohan delivered his lines.
