• Their first film together, Panneer Nadhigal (1986), was a romantic drama where they played the lead pair. Director K. Rangaraj cast them after seeing their work in stage plays — both were theatre actors before cinema.
• In Adhisaya Manithan (1990), a sci-fi comedy, Kovai Sarala’s slapstick timing pushed Nizhalgal Ravi to play the straight man harder. He later admitted in an interview that her energy forced him to stay grounded in scenes — she set the pace, he anchored it.
