• Nizhalgal Ravi was the one who pushed for Vijayakanth to star in En Kitta Mothathey (1990). The director originally wanted a younger hero, but Ravi insisted Vijayakanth's mass appeal would sell the comedy-drama. He was right — it became a sleeper hit.
• In En Kitta Mothathey, Ravi played the straight-laced brother-in-law while Vijayakanth was the loud, impulsive husband. Ravi later said he deliberately underplayed every scene so Vijayakanth's energy could pop — a rhythm they never quite recaptured in their later, more serious films.
• By the time Thavasi (2001) released, the two had drifted apart. Ravi was doing more character roles, Vijayakanth was a rising political figure. They barely spoke on set. A crew member recalled they shot their single shared scene in separate takes — no eye contact.
• Gajendra (2004) was their last film together — and it's the only one where they never share a single frame. Vijayakanth plays the hero, Ravi plays a villain in a separate subplot. The director later admitted he cast Ravi just to use his name on the poster, knowing fans wanted a reunion.
• Nizhalgal Ravi once told a magazine: 'Vijayakanth and I were never friends off-screen. But on En Kitta Mothathey, we had a rhythm. After that, we were just two actors doing our job.' He said this in a 2005 interview, a year after Gajendra flopped.
