
Thavasi(2001)
Thavasi is a 2001 Indian Tamil-language action drama film directed by K. R. Udayasankar. The film stars Vijayakanth in a dual role as father and son, alongside Soundarya, Vadivelu, Jayasudha, Prathyusha, Nassar, and Sriman. The story follows Thavasi, a respected village landlord who makes a flawed judgment that leads to a young man's suicide. To atone for his mistake, Thavasi gives his own son Boopathi to the grieving mother as a servant. The film explores themes of honor, sacrifice, and justice. It received mixed critical reviews but performed well at the box office. Vadivelu won the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Comedian for his performance. The film was later remade in Kannada as Mallikarjuna in 2011.

Storyline
Thavasi is a powerful landlord whose word is law in his village. When he wrongly accuses a young man of theft, the man commits suicide. To restore his honor, Thavasi gives his own son Boopathi to the dead man's mother as a servant. Boopathi must endure harsh treatment while uncovering the truth behind the crime.
