• Nizhalgal Ravi and Ambika first worked together in Peyveedu (1984), a horror film. Ravi was already a known face from his debut in Nenjil Oru Raagam, but Ambika was the bigger star at the time — she had just come off a string of hits. The director, R. Sundarrajan, paired them specifically because he wanted a contrast: Ravi's intense, brooding presence against Ambika's softer, more expressive style.
• In Sri Raghavendra (1985), Ambika played the saint's wife, Saraswati, while Ravi played the saint himself. The film required long, meditative scenes with almost no dialogue. Ravi later said in an interview that Ambika's ability to convey devotion through just her eyes made him raise his own performance — he started matching her stillness instead of overacting.
• After Jodi (1999) flopped, both actors went through a rough patch in their careers. They didn't speak for nearly two years. Then, for Piriyadha Varam Vendum (2001), the director had to personally mediate a phone call between them to get them to act together again. They reconciled on set and have been friends since.
• Ambika once said about Ravi: 'He doesn't act — he becomes the character. I had to work twice as hard just to keep up with him in Sri Raghavendra.' She said this in a 2001 interview promoting Piriyadha Varam Vendum.
• Piriyadha Varam Vendum (2001) was the only film in their collaboration that was a critical and commercial success. It directly led to Ambika being cast in a similar mother role in the hit TV serial 'Metti Oli' a year later — a role that revived her career. Ravi never got that kind of boost from their pair.
