• Suruli Rajan was a popular comedian when he was cast in Manthoppu Killiye (1979). But Vijayan was a newcomer. Suruli Rajan personally asked the director to give Vijayan more screen time in that film — he saw something in the kid and wanted to pull him up.
• In Anbukku Naan Adimai (1980), Suruli Rajan deliberately slowed down his comic timing in every scene with Vijayan. He told the crew that Vijayan's natural rhythm was faster, so he'd leave gaps for the younger actor to fill. That's why their banter feels so effortless.
• During the shoot of Oli Pirandhadhu (1980), Vijayan's father passed away. Suruli Rajan quietly paid for the funeral and didn't tell anyone until years later. Vijayan only found out when a production manager slipped up in conversation.
• The success of Theru Vilakku (1980) directly led to a wave of 'village buddy comedies' in Tamil cinema through the early 80s. Producers started pairing young heroes with older comedians in rural settings, copying the exact template these two had set.

• Vaadagai Veedu (1981) was supposed to be their last film together. Suruli Rajan had a falling out with the producer mid-shoot and walked off. Vijayan refused to continue without him. The producer had to beg Suruli Rajan back, and he only agreed because Vijayan had threatened to quit the film too.
