• They first met on the set of Shankar Salim Simon (1978). Director S. P. Muthuraman paired them as a comedy duo after seeing them separately in small roles. Neither had headlined a comedy track before that film.
• In En Kelvikku Enna Bathil (1978), Raghavan played the straight man while Suruli Rajan did the physical comedy. Raghavan would deliberately pause his lines to let Suruli Rajan's reactions land — a rhythm they perfected over four films.
• Their double-act in Naan Potta Savaal (1980) directly inspired the comedy track in the 1985 blockbuster Naan Sigappu Manithan. The director of that film admitted he rewatched their scenes to study the timing.
• Suruli Rajan was a regular at Raghavan's house during the making of Hitler Umanath (1982). Raghavan's wife later recalled that Suruli Rajan would show up unannounced, and they'd rehearse dialogues on the veranda for hours.
• In Hitler Umanath (1982), Raghavan wrote his own lines for their scenes. Suruli Rajan improvised the physical bits — like the famous scene where he keeps tripping over a stool. Raghavan never told him where the stool would be placed, so the surprise was real.
