Partnership facts

• Prema and Brahmanandam first shared screen space in Dharma Chakram (1996) because director Suresh Krissna needed a comedian who could match Prema's deadpan timing. Brahmanandam was brought in last minute after the original comedian dropped out.
• In Chiru Navvuto (2000), Brahmanandam improvised an entire scene where he reacts to Prema's character ignoring him — Prema stayed silent and let him run with it. The director kept the take because her stillness made his chaos funnier.
• Prema and Brahmanandam never exchanged phone numbers or met socially outside sets. Their entire relationship was built on set — she called him 'Brahmanandam garu' even after three films, and he once joked he didn't know her real voice because she was always in character.
• Brahmanandam said in a 2018 interview: 'Prema is the only actress who made me work harder. She wouldn't laugh at my jokes on set. I had to earn it.'
• Their pairing in Dharma Chakram (1996) directly inspired director V. V. Vinayak to cast a similar straight-faced heroine opposite a comedian in his later films — he cited Prema's reactions to Brahmanandam as the template.
• In Utsavam (2024), their first film together in 24 years, Prema deliberately broke character mid-scene to laugh at Brahmanandam's dialogue — something she never did in the 90s. He later told the crew it was the first time he saw her crack.
