The shape of the work

Partnership facts
- Rajinikanth was already a superstar in Tamil when he agreed to do 'Ninaithale Inikkum' (1979) in Hindi — but only because Jayapradha, who was the bigger star in Bollywood at the time, personally requested him for the remake. She told the producer she wouldn't do the film without him.
- In 'Insaaf Kaun Karega' (1984), Rajinikanth played a double role — and Jayapradha had to act opposite both versions of him in the same scene. She later said in an interview that he would switch between the two characters mid-shot without blinking, and she had to match his energy beat-for-beat or the scene would fall flat.
- During the shoot of 'Tyaagi' (1992), Rajinikanth would bring homemade South Indian snacks to the set every Friday. Jayapradha, who is Telugu, told a crew member it was the only time she felt at home on a Hindi film set. They'd sit in her vanity van and eat while discussing the next day's scenes.
- Jayapradha once said: 'Rajini sir and I never needed to rehearse. We'd look at each other once, and the scene would just happen. He made me a better actress because he never let me be lazy.'
- Their 1987 film 'Insaaf Kaun Karega' (the second one with that title) was a direct remake of Rajinikanth's own Tamil hit 'Naan Sigappu Manithan'. Jayapradha insisted on playing the same role she did in the original — making her the only actress to reprise her part opposite Rajinikanth in both languages.
- The first time they met was on the sets of 'Ninaithale Inikkum' (1979). Rajinikanth walked up to Jayapradha and said in broken Hindi, 'Main aapka fan hoon.' She laughed and replied in Tamil, 'Main bhi aapki fan hoon.' That broke the ice for the next 13 years of working together.
