• Sivakumar was already a star when he agreed to do Kanmani Raja (1974) — but he insisted on casting Devaraj Mohan, a newcomer he'd spotted in a stage play. The director wasn't convinced, so Sivakumar reportedly said, 'If he's not in it, I'm out.' That's how Devaraj Mohan got his first Tamil film break.
• On the set of Annakili (1976), Sivakumar would deliberately flub his lines in the first take — just to make Devaraj Mohan laugh and loosen up. Devaraj Mohan later said that trick taught him to stay in character no matter what, because Sivakumar never broke once he got serious.
• Their 1977 film Kavikkuyil launched playback singer S. Janaki into a new league — she sang all the female solos in that film. But the real ripple: the film's success directly inspired director Bharathiraja to cast the same pair again in his next, which became the trendsetting rural romance that defined late-70s Tamil cinema.
• During the shoot of Uravu Solla Oruvan (1975), Sivakumar's wife was pregnant with their first child. Devaraj Mohan would drive him to the hospital after pack-up every single night, then bring him back to set at 5 AM. They never talked about it publicly — it was just what friends did.
• Devaraj Mohan once told a magazine: 'Sivakumar didn't just act with me — he taught me how to hold a pause. In Sayndhadamma Sayndhadu (1977), he told me, "The silence between your words is louder than the dialogue." I still use that.'
