Partnership facts

• They first shared screen space in 'Raghuveer' (1995), but the film was a disaster. The director, K. Pappu, paired them because both were fresh faces — Sunil had just debuted in 'Balwaan', Shilpa in 'Aag'. Neither had box office pull yet, so the film sank without a trace.
• In 'Dus' (1997), Sunil played a brooding, violent cop while Shilpa played his love interest. The film's action sequences were choreographed by the same team that later did 'Dhoom' — and Sunil insisted on doing all his stunts himself. Shilpa later said she felt safe on set because Sunil would check every stunt rig before she stepped near it.
• Despite sharing the same surname, they are not related. But during the shoot of 'Prithvi' (1997), Sunil's mother would bring homemade food for both of them. Shilpa has said in interviews that Sunil's family treated her like a daughter, and she called his mother 'Maa'.
• Their last film together, 'Karz: The Burden of Truth' (2002), was a remake of the 1980 Amitabh Bachchan hit 'Karz'. The film flopped, but the soundtrack — especially the song 'Dil Hai Deewana' — became a club staple in the early 2000s. It was one of the first Bollywood remixes to get heavy rotation in Mumbai discos.
