• Om Puri was the one who pushed for Sunil Shetty to be cast in 'Kyon Ki' (2005). The director wanted a different actor for the role, but Puri insisted Shetty had the right intensity for the part.
• In 'Mukhbiir' (2008), Om Puri deliberately slowed down his dialogue delivery in every scene with Shetty. He told Shetty on set that he wanted to force him to listen and react instead of rushing through lines — it made Shetty's performance more grounded.
• During the shoot of 'Tere Pyaar Ki Kasam' (2002), Om Puri would sit with Sunil Shetty after pack-up and read out old Hindi film scripts. Shetty later said those sessions taught him more about acting than any workshop.
