Partnership facts

• Jackie Shroff and Priyadarshan first worked together on 'Hulchul' (1995) because Priyadarshan needed a Hindi star who could match the physical comedy of his Malayalam original. Jackie was the only one who said yes without reading the full script.
• On 'Kabhi Na Kabhi' (1998), Priyadarshan let Jackie improvise most of his comic lines. Jackie's ad-libbed 'Maine kya kiya?' became the film's most repeated dialogue, even though the scene was written as a straight reaction.
• The success of 'Bhagam Bhag' (2006) directly led to Priyadarshan casting Jackie in 'Dhol' (2007) and 'Mere Baap Pehle Aap' (2008). Without their 2006 hit, those two films wouldn't have been greenlit.
• During the shoot of 'Kyon Ki' (2005), Jackie would bring homemade thepla for Priyadarshan every morning. The director later said Jackie's food deliveries were the only thing that got him through that difficult production.
• Priyadarshan once said about Jackie: 'He is the only actor who can make a stupid line sound like philosophy. I wrote nonsense for him in Hulchul, and he delivered it like Shakespeare.'
