Partnership facts

• Nassar and Subbaraju first shared screen space in the 2006 Tamil film 'Nenjirukkum Varai', but their real Telugu partnership kicked off a year later in 'Pokkiri' (2007). Subbaraju was cast as the villain opposite Mahesh Babu, and Nassar played a key supporting role — the director Puri Jagannadh deliberately paired them as on-screen rivals to exploit their contrasting screen energies.
• In 'Pourudu' (2008), Nassar played a ruthless don and Subbaraju his loyal henchman. The film's tension came from Nassar's calm, measured menace versus Subbaraju's explosive physicality — they never raised their voices at each other, but the audience felt the power shift in every silent stare.
• Despite playing enemies in four of their five films together, Nassar and Subbaraju are close off-screen. Subbaraju has said in interviews that Nassar was the first senior actor to treat him as an equal on set, often pulling him aside to discuss character motivations before scenes.
• Their only film together that wasn't a commercial success was 'Naa Ishtam' (2012), but it's the one where they played friends for the first time. That film's failure meant no producer risked casting them as a friendly duo again — so every subsequent pairing went back to the villain-henchman dynamic.
• Subbaraju once told a Telugu news channel: 'Nassar sir doesn't act — he becomes the character. When we shot 'Pourudu', I forgot he was my friend. I was genuinely scared of him.'
• In 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy' (2019), their biggest film together, they played characters on opposite sides of the freedom struggle. Nassar's role was smaller, but Subbaraju later admitted that Nassar deliberately stayed in character even between takes to keep Subbaraju's performance sharp — a trick he learned from their earlier films.
