• Vasu was a struggling character actor when Ganesan personally requested the director of Sorgam (1970) to cast him. That film became their first together and launched Vasu into regular leading roles.
• On the set of Thavaputhalvan (1972), Ganesan would deliberately flub his lines in the first take just to watch Vasu react. Vasu’s genuine confusion made the scene feel raw, and the director kept those takes in the final cut.
• During the shoot of Doctor Siva (1975), Vasu’s father passed away. Ganesan quietly paid for all the funeral arrangements and didn’t tell anyone until years later — Vasu only found out from a production assistant.
• Their fourth film Grihapravesam (1976) was the first Tamil movie to show a married couple sleeping in separate beds — a detail Ganesan insisted on after Vasu joked that real-life couples don’t sleep like movie stars. That scene sparked a minor censorship debate.
• Vasu once said in a 1980 interview: 'Sivaji made me believe I could act. He’d whisper the scene’s emotion in my ear before the camera rolled, then step back and let me own it.'
