• Sathyaraj and Sukanya first paired up in Thirumathi Palanisamy (1992) because the director wanted a fresh, non-glamorous couple for a village comedy. Sukanya was just 19 and Sathyaraj was already a star — he personally okayed her after a screen test.
• In Udan Pirappu (1993), Sathyaraj played a double role — one a serious cop, the other a comic villager. Sukanya matched his comic timing beat-for-beat in the village scenes, and the director later said she made Sathyaraj loosen up his usual intense style.
• Their film Vandicholai Chinraasu (1994) was a rare female-centric action comedy for its time — Sukanya’s character drives the plot. It directly inspired the 1996 film Senathipathi, where they reunited as a married couple on the run, a template later copied by several B-movies.
• Sathyaraj and Sukanya stayed close friends after their films ended. In 2004, when Adi Thadi released after an 8-year gap, Sukanya was already semi-retired. She agreed to do it only because Sathyaraj called her personally and said, 'Just one more, for old times.'
