• Director A. P. Nagarajan cast them together for the first time in Aalayamani (1962) after seeing their individual performances in stage plays. He reportedly told friends he wanted a pair that could match the intensity of Sivaji Ganesan and Savitri, but with a softer, more romantic vibe.
• On the sets of Saradha (1962), Rajendran would deliberately slow down his dialogue delivery to match Pushpalatha's natural rhythm. She later said in an interview that he 'carried her through every emotional scene' and that without his pacing, she would have looked lost.
• Their pairing in Pachai Vilakku (1964) directly inspired director K. Balachander to cast a similar fresh-faced romantic duo in his debut film — though he ended up going with a different pair. Balachander admitted in a 1990s interview that he watched Pachai Vilakku five times to study their 'natural, unforced intimacy'.
• Pushpalatha and Rajendran never spoke to each other off-camera during the entire shoot of Neengadha Ninaivu (1963). A misunderstanding over a missed rehearsal had soured things. They only patched up on the last day of shooting, when Rajendran quietly slipped a thank-you note into her makeup box.
• Pushpalatha once told a magazine: 'Rajendran sir never raised his voice at me, even when I forgot my lines. He would just pause, look at me, and wait. That silence was more powerful than any dialogue.'
