Partnership facts

• Sujatha was the one who pushed for Major Sundarrajan to play her father in Dheepam (1977). The director wanted a different actor, but Sujatha insisted — she had seen him on stage and felt only he could bring the right emotional weight to the role.
• On the sets of Anbukku Naan Adimai (1980), Major Sundarrajan would rehearse his lines with Sujatha in military-style drills — repeating dialogues until both hit the exact same rhythm. Sujatha later said that habit made their emotional scenes feel like a perfectly timed duet.
• After every film wrap, Major Sundarrajan would gift Sujatha a small brass lamp. She kept all four — one from each movie — on a shelf at home. She told a magazine in 1983 that the lamps reminded her of the warmth he brought to every father-daughter scene.
• "He didn't just act like a father. He became one between 'cut' and 'action'. I never had to pretend." — Sujatha, in a 1982 interview about Major Sundarrajan, referring to their work on Thyagi.
• Their pairing in Vaa Kanna Vaa (1982) directly inspired director K. Bhagyaraj to cast them again as father-daughter in his next film — but the project fell through when Major Sundarrajan fell ill. That unmade film would have been their fifth collaboration.
